Umpire Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for an umpire position, applicants must be at least 15 years of age on or before June 1 of the current year. This ensures that all umpires have reached a level of maturity and responsibility necessary to handle the demands of the role, including decision-making on the field, working with coaches and players, and maintaining professionalism throughout the season.
All applicants are required to fully disclose any criminal offenses, with the exception of minor traffic violations, prior to the start of employment. The Mexico Optimist Club places a high priority on the safety and well-being of the athletes and families we serve, and therefore reserves the right to conduct comprehensive background checks on all applicants. Candidates may be asked to provide additional information or documentation as part of this process to ensure a safe and positive environment for everyone involved.
In order to comply with federal, state, and organizational requirements, all applicants must provide accurate and complete information needed for tax and payroll purposes. This may include, but is not limited to, legal identification, social security information, and any additional forms required to establish employment eligibility. Failure to provide proper documentation may delay or prevent the applicant from being officially hired.
Prior to the start of the season, all selected umpires will be required to attend an official training clinic. This clinic is designed to provide instruction on the rules of the game, proper positioning, conflict resolution, and overall expectations for on-field performance. Attendance is mandatory, as it ensures that every umpire enters the season prepared, confident, and equipped to uphold the integrity of the game.
